2024 GRANT RECIPIENTS

The Krum ISD Education Foundation awarded grants to Krum ISD educators and students during end-of-year ceremonies held at the Krum Performing Arts Center.

LIST OF RECIPIENTS

KISD’s annual teacher convocation was held on Monday, August 5, 2024, in The Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Krum High School. Krum ISD Education Foundation board members Kelsi Bannahan, Lori Sullivan, Amanda Cole, Bradley McBride and our newly appointed Executive Director, Brooke Cates attended the ceremonies to present the 2024 grants for Technology & Instructional Initiatives and Teacher Scholarships.

 

Along with the help of our partner, the CoServ Charitable Foundation, KEF was able to award Hattie Dyer Elementary teachers Lauren Mosely and Marian Martin a grant in the amount of $3,205 for equipment and materials needed to create a campus news station for student-led video morning announcements. This will be for students to create and conduct streamed morning announcements to reach all students on our campus.

In addition, CoServ Charitable Foundation and KEF also partnered to fund Hattie Dyer Elementary teachers Wendy Arriaga and Marian Martin a grant in the amount of $1,434  to add iPads to the STEAM classroom. Students' knowledge of computational thinking foundations and applications, and data literacy, management, and representation will be
evaluated with end-of-unit assessments and teacher evaluations on the iPads.

 

Megan Smith and Mandy Martinez​ from Dixie Hansel Elementary were awarded funding in the amount of $3,842 to purchase a set of 4 iPads for use in each of their classrooms. Updated technology in their classrooms will better equip and engage students as well as enhance their lessons.

Sarah Yanez of Dixie Hansel Elementary was awarded funding in the amount of $1,500 to purchase 3 iPads for use in classroom. These tools will allow her to create and engage in meaningful content with her students.

Teachers Heather Libick and Kim Reed from Hattie Dyer Elementary were awarded a Technology Grant titled “Project Poster"   in the amount of $5,000 to purchase a poster printer. They plan to use this to create goal-setting posters for students across grade levels. Students set goals on campus each year for reading improvement, math fact fluency, and benchmark testing. This will provide a way for each student to track their goals and growth through the school year.

Danielle Campbell of Blanche Dodd Elementary was awarded a grant in the amount of $5,500 to purchase a STAAR Master Interactive Elementary School Math Site License for grades 3-5. This will be used to increase overall campus
annual growth in mathematics.

Ashley Buchanan of Dixie Hansel Elementary was awarded funding in the amount of $1,584 to purchase 3 iPads for use in classroom. These iPads will allow her to integrate technology effortlessly in the classroom.

Teachers Ashton Eubanks, Krystie McGraw, Lisanne Mays, and Michele Dillon of Hattie Dyer Elementary were awarded an instructional grant in the amount of $4,560 to attend the CAST Science Conference 2024. This opportunity will provide our
teachers with the most current and engaging teaching methods, labs, and resources to ensure high quality instruction in our district classrooms.

Music teacher Megan Beard of Hattie Elementary was awarded a instructional grant in the amount of $5,000 for her project titled "Sing, Say, Move and Play with Orff Instruments." With this grant, she will provide a multifaceted approach centered around the practical application of music concepts through hands-on experience with musical instruments.

P.E. Coach Heather Bell of Hattie Dyer Elementary was awarded an instructional grant in the amount of $765 for Sport Stacking sets in the classroom. This equipment is a fitness-based sport that kids from all backgrounds and abilities can perform.

Lauren Mosely of Hattie Dyer Elementary was awarded an instructional grant in the amount of $1,600 for carts of activities when the weather is inclement. This grant will fund 5 indoor recess carts equipped with materials for students to participate in collaborative, creative, and engaging activities during indoor recess.

* All grant applications were reviewed and scored by the Programs and Allocations Committee after educators submitted them in February. To be eligible for consideration, the grant application must present a project that has a designated period for completion, highlights measurable objectives, and aligns with the district’s mission, improvement plan, and curriculum goals. The grant application must also describe how the success of the project will be evaluated. 

These grants were among four different types of grants currently funded by Krum ISD Education Foundation. The purpose of an Instructional Initiative Grant is to provide funds to support educators through their instructional projects and pursuits that supplement and align with the district’s strategic plan. The purpose of a Technology Grant is to provide funds to acquire technology, to enhance technology which is already in place, and to develop skills to leverage a funded initiative in support of education reforms and state achievement. 

In addition to the teacher and campus grants, the Foundation awarded five KEF Teacher Scholarships to educators in Krum Independent School District.

Wendy Arriaga of Hattie Dyer Elementary was awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,500. She is pursuing her Bachelor's of Arts, Educational Studies in Elementary Education and goal of teacher certification.

Denise Burns of Krum Middle School was awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,500. She is pursuing her M.Ed. in Special Education with Educational Diagnostician Certification. She will develop the specialized skill set and
knowledge base to serve, assess, and diagnose exceptional students.

Heather Libick of Hattie Dyer Elementary was awarded a scholarship of $900 to help her complete MTA dyslexia training.

Katie McDonald of Dixie Hansel Elementary was awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,500. She is pursuing a Master's of Jurisprudence degree from St. Mary's law school with an emphasis in Education law. This will giver her legal expertise to become an "in-house" resource for KISD.

Kim Reed of Hattie Dyer Elementary was awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,500. She is pursuing a Master’s degree in education, majoring in literacy studies from The University of Texas at Arlington. The course is required to obtain her Master’s degree in reading education and become better equipped to provide instruction to students with various literacy deficits and needs.

Introduced in fiscal year 2017, the KEF Teacher Scholarship program provides funds to support educators in advancing their value to the District through training, certification, and higher education. The Foundation may award up to $1,500 per educator per year.

In addition to Krum ISD educator grants, the Foundation awarded an additional $24,528 directly to Krum ISD students in the form of scholarships and grants for a total amount awarded to educators and students of $65,418.
